Drew Nesbitt in good position to secure Korn Ferry Tour card

Simcoe County golfer Drew Nesbitt has put himself in a good position to earn a Korn Ferry Tour card for next season with his win at the Victory Open over the weekend.

The PGA Tour Americas victory bumped him to 7th place in the Fortinet Cup standings with only one event to go - the Fortinet Cup Championship which starts this Thursday at Morgan Creek Golf Course in Surrey, British Columbia.

The top-10 golfers in the Fortinet Cup standings receive membership cards on the Korn Ferry Tour, which is a feeder tour for the PGA Tour.

“Job’s not done. I look at it like holding a lead in a tournament. When you come to Sunday, you still have to play a good round of golf. Next week’s no different. Just because you’re in a position to earn Korn Ferry Tour membership doesn’t mean anything is guaranteed. This tour is strong, there are good players, and anything can happen. My goal is to go out next week, play the best I can, and let the results take care of themselves,” said Nesbitt, who had his father, Dave, as his caddie at the Victoria Open.

“I’ve been out here a little longer than some other guys, but I’ve dug deep internally and really tried to show myself that I can do this, that I’m able to play to my potential,” said the 30-year-old from Horseshoe Valley, Ontario, reflecting on the determination that has kept his career alive.

In addition to 10 exempt Korn Ferry Tour cards via the season-long points race, up to five conditional Korn Ferry cards are available to the top two finishers in the Latin America Swing and the top three finishers in the North American Swing, if these players do not finish in the top 10 on the final PGA Tour Americas list.

Nesbitt, who turned professional after graduating from Eastview Secondary School in Barrie, is the only player to shoot 59 on the Latinoamerica Tour, carding that score during the Brazil Open in 2018.
